Abcanthas * * * * *:I don't know whether Abcanthas were so good they made the audience better or whether the audience were so good they made the band better!?! Either way, the atmosphere for Abcanthas was great even as the band were walking onto the stage. This band had a great stage show with lots of heart, passion and attitude from all the band members. The screaming vocals were ear-piercingly intense and the melodies were very good for most of the time. The two frontwomen, Rachel Roberts and Aimee Casey complete with wings, worked the audience like professionals and suited each other's style very well. Guitarist Glen gave us loads of heavy riffs and the crowd loved it. Their cover of Evanescence's Bring Me to Life was really good, with the whole mood of the song enhanced by Cris Hardwicke's gothic synthesizer playing and Jonny McVae's drums gave the band a solid base through the whole show. They played an original song which was as just as moody as Bring Me to Life and their last song was so heavy, it sent the moshpit spinnning. Abcanthas were not the best musicians in the club but they succeeded through sheer strength of spirit and it was a great show to watch.
